Stats:
• Canadians sent 19.5 billion person-to-person text messages in Q3 2011.
• 6.7 billion person-to-person text messages were sent in September 2011 alone, which represents an average of approximately 224 million messages per day.
• Total text messages sent in 2010 numbered 56.4 billion, a 60% increase over the 2009 total of 35.3 billion messages. In the first nine months of 2011, Canadians had sent 57 billion messages, already surpassing the 2010 full-year total.
• Total person-to-person MMS messages in the first nine months of 2011 numbered 223.7 million. In Q3 2011, MMS messages sent totaled 87.5 million, up from 72.8 million in Q2 2011. This represents a 20.2% increase quarter-over-quarter. As of September 2011, Canadians are sending an average of 999,037 MMS messages per day, up from 852,121 per day in June 2011.
• Canadians sent and received a total of 711.9 million text messages using Common Short Codes in Q3 2011, marking a 27% increase over the same quarter in 2010.
• A total of 2.3 billion Common Short Code messages were sent and received by Canadians in 2010, representing a 36% increase over the 2009 total of 1.7 billion messages.
