**IMPORTANT NOTICE: New Short Code applications are normally considered every Tuesday. In order to have your application considered, it must be submitted before 1:00 PM (EDT) of the preceding Thursday. Subject to the volume of new requests, the provisioning date for newly approved short codes is expected to be no earlier than August 30 2010.

Please note that due to the upcoming holiday, the Short Code application deadline next week has been changed to Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 1:00 PM EDT. The deadline will return to Thursday at 1:00 PM EDT the following weeks. As well, please be aware that the CWTA offices will be closed on Monday, August 2, 2010.

Programs will be considered on a first come first served basis; provisioning dates are dependant on the volume of applications submitted. Aggregators are to provide all required carrier documentation immediately upon the issuance of the Letter of Approval. The typical timeline to provide these documents does not apply during the brown out period- aggregators would do well, for example, to have the Ready for Testing notice prepared at the time of application submission.

Feel free to contact shortcodes@cwta.ca should you have any questions.

Change control:

Please note, that once the application has been approved by the CWTA, this will be the scope of the Program that will be developed for the particular Short Code requested. If for any reason, the scope of the Program does change once approval has been granted, the applicant must submit a revised application, clearly outlining the changes to the original program.
The CWTA will review the changes and provide feedback to the respective applicant. Please note that if the changes are viewed as major, the timelines of the proposed program could be impacted.

Important Notes:

  1. 4-digit codes are not supported by all handsets and are not available at this time.
  2. Codes with a leading digit '4' are not permitted.
  3. The maximum length of a text message is 136 characters instead of 160 characters.
  4. Programs that require, explicitly or implicitly, a guarantee that a text message will be delivered may not be supported.
